Mick Schumacher is heading to INDYCAR. The 26 year old son of legendary F1 champion Micheal Schumacher, will be joining Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) for the 2026 season of the NTT INDYCAR Series. Rumors of Mick’s entry to the series have been circulating for weeks. On October 13th, Mick tested a car with RLL and impressed the team at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course.
Many race fans know Mick because of his lineage of course, but also from his Formula career. Mick had an impressive junior formula stint, winning both the F2 and F3 championships with Prema. His F1 career spanned 43 race starts with Haas though time in F1 wasn’t probably all what he hoped for. He faced a lot of criticism from both inside and outside the team for his ability to find the wall on a race weekend. Mick’s best finish was 6th place at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix.

In my opinion, Mick bounced back when he moved to the World Endurance Championship and raced hypercars for Alpine. Mick raced two seasons with the French squad and recorded three podiums in WEC’s fastest class. There was also some overlap when he was a Mercedes F1 reserve driver during his time in WEC, meaning an open wheel comeback was never out of the question.
I was also immediately excited about the car and the American way of motorsport, which comes across as being more about pure and direct racing, and it is precisely this aspect that I am very much looking forward to. And of course, I am curious about new experiences and always interested in broadening my horizons. For me, a new journey is beginning here, and I am excited for the season to start. – Mick Schumacher
And here we are today, the young Mick Schumacher back in open wheel racing. INDYCAR of course being a different beast compared to F1. With elements such as a lack of power steering, ovals, differing push to pass systems, it will be exciting to see how Mick gets on.
Mick will be driving the #47 Honda which is a tribute to his father, as it’s a combination of Mick’s number 4 and Micheal’s famous number 7. Mick’s teammates at RLL will be Graham Rahal and 2025 Rookie of the Year Louis Foster. This will definitely be a story line to watch for when the 2026 INDYCAR series kicks off March 1st in St. Petersburg.
